So consciousness it's a very complex topic. Lots of things about the mind and senses are complex, like smell, sight, feel, etc. I was wondering about the possible of uploading your mind to a computer, connecting your brain to a computer, or even switching consciousness to another health human body (maybe cloned bodies). I say this with the question, can we extend our life? If so is it still you? Can you still be yourself? I love you guys, you make the most intriguing and interesting videos. Have a good day.

Everything has always been conscious. The "conscious" that is being referred is discrimination. It's not awareness of self. It's the awareness of not self. The more that can be labeled not self, the more "conscious" a "one" can become. To the point that even "conscious" is not self. Do you see the trap?

The complex biological process that forms consciousness uses even more complex chemistry here in the material universe to fold an energetic field that exists "on the other side" but also occupies the same space, into a soul. The soul governs the electrical impulses between neurons that are in the brain and throughout the body.

This paradox can’t be solved by the simple fact that a knife can’t cut itself. Try getting a knife to cut itself or your hand to grab itself or a mirror to reflect its own image. You Can’t do it Thus in the same way, consciousness can’t be conscious of what it is. Consciousness which is the at the heart knowledge, can not know itself either.

This does not explain consciousness. Consciousness is the subjective experience of something. Consciousness is not just a result of neurons firing. Because there are many brain processes that are unconscious, that we're not aware of. So what differentiates between neurons that do result in a subjective experience, and those that don't? Evolutionarily there is no need for consciousness. So why are we not all 'philosophical zombies' that can do everything we do but don't have any subjective experience?

Consciousness is all there is. Reality is an illusion made up of energy that is made manifest by our consciousness. Consciousness makes your reality not the other way around. No consciousness, no physical reality. The little story told in this video couldn't have happened without a consciousness to observe it. Without consciousness there is nothing but energy without form. Consciousness is required first before anything can happen at all. @Eternal Reign again they were just talking about how consciousness changed through over time. Misleading title completely. And no evolution isn't random. The mutations are encouraged by the collective consciousness, especially within our own collection of cells. Consciousness sees fruit up high in a tree and the cells mutate and try to change the code it passes down. Some mutations work others dont and the trial and error \ survival of the best mutations win. We can see conscious decisions in Bacteria all the time. The more simple the code the faster it can change. We've witnessed mosquitos change very rapidly. These changes aren't just random.

  92. Eternal Reign

    Eternal Reign8 일 전

They explained a possible how, but there is no why. There's never a why when it comes to evolution. Evolution isn't a conscious thing with a plan, it's just a bunch of mutations that occur randomly each generation. Some are beneficial and some are harmful. The beneficial ones get passed along to the next generation, naturally, and the harmful ones usually lead to the demise of an organism. The first consciousness was probably just slightly better senses or perception. Like the first eye was just a patch of light sensitive skin that could only discern between light and dark.

This is incredibly unscientific. 100% of the evidence shows us that life comes from life and that life never comes from non-life. There is not a single piece of genuinely valid evidence of life coming from matter, what to speak of consciousness arising from matter. The false dogma of materialism is not science.

  111. Abhirama Dasa

    Abhirama Dasa8 시간 전

@Hm Grraarrpffrzz Can you stop mashing the keyboard furiously and just calm down and answer my questions please? What I sad before was plain and simple: "you cannot provide any evidence of life coming from non-life, nor can you explain how the material body is continuously changing and yet the person is still the same person, nor can you explain where or how consciousness arises in the body. You said that you are not actually claiming that you are dead matter. OK great, then what are you?" - actually answer these points in a simple and clear manner. Or alternatively, admit that materialism is a dead end. The dogma that you are nothing but a collection of sophisticated material machinery is not science. Either answer these points, or admit that materialism is just a blind dogma taught by people who are stubbornly determined to enjoy this temporary material body and identify with this body, regardless of any evidence or rational arguments.

  112. Hm Grraarrpffrzz

    Hm Grraarrpffrzz9 시간 전

@Abhirama Dasa Considering that you ignore any comment and question of mine that you are not happy with, does this discussion make any sense? So, again: - You provided no evidence that a soul or deity exists. - You made claims that it is a scientific fact that we consist of "superior energy", yet you failed to provide any evidence or even detailed explanation that this is true or how it is true. - You said that life can't come from non-life, but you haven't provided any rational arguments support that claim, except that you haven't witnessed this happening, which is obviously you falling for the black swan fallacy and not applying reason or common sense. So, so far you basically provided some claims and that's it. Nothing else. _"you cannot provide any evidence of life coming from non-life"_ I don't have to. I never said that we have evidence that life came from non-life. I said it's the most rational conclusion based on what we know. *You* are the one who said that life can't come from non-life but failed to support that claim with rational arguments. Where did life come from then? Can you explain that in more detail but _"a mysterious invisible entity appeared out of nowhere and magically everything came into existence"?_ Do you expect me to blindly believe that? _"nor can you explain how the material body is continuously changing and yet the person is still the same person"_ I don't have to explain that. :D *You* said that this is because of the soul, yet you failed to explain in detail how that works or provide evidence that it is the case. How does it work? How does our soul make us the same person? Does it store memories? If so, how does it do that? Where does it come from? Do animals have souls? All of them? What does a soul consist of? If a soul has any measurable impact on the material world, then we should be able to measure the soul. How do we do that? If it has zero impact on the material world, why should the soul matter? What evidence do you have that there is more than the material world? All you do is making claims, calling them fact, and pretending that by calling them facts they are facts. What you miss is evidence, rational arguments, indepth explanations. That is because religions teach you to just repeat what you are told. _"You said that you are not actually claiming that you are dead matter. OK great, then what are you?"_ As I said before: I fulfill the criteria for life, so I am alive. Tell me: are viruses alive? It's telling that you ignore 90% of what I write. :D It's like when a teacher gives you the results of an exam, and you got 99 answers wrong and 1 right, and you ignore everything you got wrong and shout _"PERFECT SCORE YEAH!!"_ You can do that, but it's just self-delusion.

  113. Abhirama Dasa

    Abhirama Dasa17 시간 전

@Hm Grraarrpffrzz in short, you cannot provide any evidence of life coming from non-life, nor can you explain how the material body is continuously changing and yet the person is still the same person, nor can you explain where or how consciousness arises in the body. You said that you are not actually claiming that you are dead matter. OK great, then what are you?

    Hm Grraarrpffrzz17 시간 전

@Abhirama Dasa _"What evidence is there that at some point in time there was no life in the universe?"_ We have evidence that the big bang happened. How can life exist in a tiny super dense space millions of degrees hot? You are right, it can not. So at that point at least there was no life, but now there is life. _"And what about the Big Bang theory? It states that everything began from an infinite singularity. Theistic philosophers also state that everything began from an infinite singular source, they call that God."_ This argument of yours does not work, because you misunderstood the big bang theory. It does *not* state that everything began with a singularity. It says that the singularity is the earliest state of the universe we know. It does not say that there was nothing before that. And where does the religion you follow state, that the deity you worship is a tiny dense and hot space? You see, religion, like science, tries to give answers. Science, unlike religion, tries to give the correct answers, and does its best to verify the answers it gives. Religions do not attempt to verify anything. That is why religions can be thousands of years old, still not supported by a shred of evidence, and the worshippers still do not care. So, whenever we have a question we have no reliable answer to, and both religion and science provide a possibility, and we later learned the correct answers, then science was always right, and religion always wrong. Science and religion give different answers to the same questions, but the answers science gives are more reliable, which means that religion either has to deny scientifically proven knowledge ("there is no evolution!"), or interpret its own claims more loosely ("god is a singularity") so that they still fit. What I'm trying to say is: you do not claim that God was the singularity because that claim would make any sense, but to rationalize your believes. _"but you are stubborn"_ I'm searching the truth and as such believing nothing that makes no sense to me. I wouldn't call that being stubborn, but rather applying reason and logic to come to reliable conclusions. _"First of all, there is not a single instance of life coming from non-life."_ Again: can you prove that? How would you know that this is not happening right now in another galaxy? You have to admit that claiming "X is not possible" is making no sense, if you have not way whatsoever to verify that claim. Again, you are saying that not because it makes sense, but because your religious believes are more important to you than the truth. _"So if you are THIS body, then who was that body when you were a child?"_ That's a good question that reaches more into philosophy than natural sciences. We both agree that I am currently not the child-me. I am somebody else. So my personal opinion is that, as the consciousness depends solely on our physical existence, as our physical existence changes, so does our consciousness. That is why people behave differently as adults than as children. So... I'm not the child anymore, I'm a changed continued existence of sorts. I have the memories of the child (most of them), but I am not the child anymore. _"If consciousness is a product of chemical interactions in your body, then where is it occurring? How is it occurring?"_ Mostly in the brain. That's why people with brain injuries often have a differently changed character. _"What about when you dream, where are YOU in a dream?"_ I am not in the dream. When I sleep I am not conscious, so I have no self-consciousness while I dream. My brain is doing that by itself. I often do remember though what my brain was doing while I dreamt after waking up. _"If there is no such thing as previous lives, and no such thing as an afterlife, then how do you explain so many instances of past life regressions, near death experiences, and so on?"_ I don't believe in previous lives or afterlives. I mean, an afterlife would be difficult to prove or disprove, as, same as God, religions put a lot of effort into making them unprovable. If something like a past life would exist, then that could be scientifically proven though. Just conduct a number of experiments with lots of people, make sure that they have next to no knowledge about history of any sorts, and then have them (however that works) gain knowledge about their past lives. If that would work, they'd be then able to tell details that would be impossible for them to know otherwise. So, it would be easy to prove, but so far nobody has ever done that. Our memories are stored in our brains. Since we do not have the brains of people who have lived in the past, we can not be them. Past life regressions? If we'd have had past lives, then most people would have had lives as peasants in the past. However, for some reason, nearly everybody was a lord, princess, king, queen or warrior. Why? Because those past live sessions are story-telling sessions about making the client happy. A happy client pays more, than a client who you tell "yeah you died at the age of 8 in a coal mine in England 500 years ago" or "you got kicked in the head by a horse in greece 1000 years ago and died at the age of 12 as a poor farmer". And near death experiences? They're not more than the brain going haywire in a situation of extreme stress. Some scientists have put up displays in emergency rooms, that show in intervalls random words or numbers. If a patient would be able to fly around while officially dead, they'd be able to see that display and recount the words or numbers. Has that ever happened? No, not once. And how would that work anyway? How could you your physical surroundings if you have no eyes? I mean, you see things by having the light hit receptors in your eyes. If you have no eyes, because you are dead, how could you see anything? How does that work? It makes no sense. It's a story to make people feel good who can't bear the thought of being mortal. _"There is the energy of this material world, and there is the superior energy of the spiritual world, which is pure consciousness."_ And that has been scientifically proven? What kind of energy are you talking about exactly? What does it consist of? How can we measure it? _"Material objects are always imperfect and uncertain. These are facts of science. "_ That we are made of "superior energy" is not a fact of science... Or do you have a link to some scientific research in that regard? And what does "imperfect" mean here? Whether something is perfect or not is a subjective judgement by us, and not a scientific attribute. _"Therefore it is perfectly rational to conclude that you are the soul. "_ Only if all that would be true. But you have no evidence for any of that energy stuff. As such, I have no reason to believe it, and believing in souls is irrational. _"No rational person would believe that they are dead matter. That is equivalent to a living person saying "I am dead". The act of making such a statement proves that you are alive and endowed with free will and consciousness. Therefore you are most certainly not dead matter. Continuously shouting "I am dead matter" just further proves that you are well and truly a living force."_ I never said that we are dead matter. Please stop pretending that I said things that I never did say. That is really a bad habit and highly offensive. I said that I have no reason to believe in souls or magical energies of any kind. That is a different thing than saying that we are dead. We fulfill the definition of life, so we are alive. Without magic. You made a lot of mistakes here. - You claimed that life never came from non-life without being able to support that claim in any way whatsoever. - You claimed that the big bang theory described the beginning of the universe, while it does not do that. - You claimed that we consist of superior energy and that this would be a scientific fact, which it obviously is not, unless you can provide some scientific articles that in detail explain how any of that works. In short: you provided no arguments for religion or souls or deities. Rather, due to the mistakes you made, you are instead strengthening my opinion that there are no such things. If religious people would be right, they wouldn't pretend all the time to make sense when they obviously do not.

@Hm Grraarrpffrzz What evidence is there that at some point in time there was no life in the universe? And what about the Big Bang theory? It states that everything began from an infinite singularity. Theistic philosophers also state that everything began from an infinite singular source, they call that God. And yes I did give you arguments, but you are stubborn, if you feel insulted by that, well I'm sorry. It is a fact that you are being a stubborn materialist and being condescending to teach me about philosophy. I have simply pointed out to you a few simple facts. First of all, there is not a single instance of life coming from non-life. Secondly, your temporary material body has changed several times even within this one lifetime. So if you are THIS body, then who was that body when you were a child? What about when you grow old? Who will that body be at that point in time? Every single cell changes, every single molecule changes, many times during a lifespan. So who are you? Because if you are this body, then which body are you meant to be? If consciousness is a product of chemical interactions in your body, then where is it occurring? How is it occurring? What about when you dream, where are YOU in a dream? If there is no such thing as previous lives, and no such thing as an afterlife, then how do you explain so many instances of past life regressions, near death experiences, and so on? Actually the soul is a very scientific conclusion, because it is perfectly rational. We see clearly that matter is dead and inanimate, and that there is a living force, a conscious entity, which drives matter. There is the energy of this material world, and there is the superior energy of the spiritual world, which is pure consciousness. You are actually intrinsically made of that superior energy, which is why you are a conscious self-aware living being with free will. Matter on its own is dead, temporary, tends to decay and has no free will. Material objects have no lasting substance. Material objects are always imperfect and uncertain. These are facts of science. Therefore it is perfectly rational to conclude that you are the soul. No rational person would believe that they are dead matter. That is equivalent to a living person saying "I am dead". The act of making such a statement proves that you are alive and endowed with free will and consciousness. Therefore you are most certainly not dead matter. Continuously shouting "I am dead matter" just further proves that you are well and truly a living force.

It's easy to argue though, that dugesia has no consciousness because the nervous signals that govern satiety don't require introspection. Is something conscious, even a little bit, because it has receptors for something? That's all it takes, for dugesias simple nervous system to not detect enough internal glucose in its hemolymph or what have you, for it to go seek food. It's just the chemoreception of simple multicellular or single celled organisms with a few more steps. You, however, may be argued to have consciousness because of your thought processes that govern your multitude of actions, reflections, and behaviors due to low blood sugar and an empty belly.

Consciousness is the development of more discrete informational pathways over millions of years to adapt to the environment. Soon we will be able to replicate consciousness in machines and computers. That will be fun.

Wait, so you once there was nothing, just empty nothingness, then the universe just became a thing for no reason, then there were cells and stuff and they taught themselves to do develop there own digestive systems and eat with no help, all without failing and dying off in the process? Nah. Our consiouceness came from a higher consciousness, God, who was always there. Consciousness cannot come from non-consciousness.

@B Rabbit We are surrounded by evidence, 360 degrees, no matter where you're standing. The evidence is everywhere. We were given logic and common sense to be able to interpret that evidence and see obvious meaning. Imagine someone who looks at their kitchen table, and can't interpret any meaning. I look at a table and see evidence of a table maker, and I can even see some of the things the table maker was thinking when he made that table, maybe his color preferences and design choices. Another person looks at that same table and says, "we can't know anything about but this table. I wasn't there when the table was made, so I have no idea how this may be have come into existence, or if there was a table maker. And you are far too bold to say that you know the answer when you weren't there either." This person is you.

The basic premise here is wrong. Consciousness is different from memory and the ability to make decisions. That's why an amnesiac will still be conscious. This is conjecture based on macro evolution. Consciousness doesn't evolve yet our bodies still do. The homo erectus have evolved over the centuries into what we are now. The process hasn't stopped. Yet no one can claim that our ancestors were more conscious than we are. They just had less tools than us to understand their environment scientifically. Similarly our next generations aren't going to be more conscious even if a thousand years pass. It is flat.

  143. B Rabbit

    B Rabbit7 일 전

No there are definitely multiple levels of consciousness. Merging with AI will be the next step in human evolution and will probably help us get there.
